Honestly, I would like to do away with type gyms.

I recently replayed Pokemon Stadium 2's gym leader castle mode, and one reason the gym leaders were so much harder was because they had varied teams. For example, Jasmine had a Mantine to counter ground and water types on her steel team. The levels were all equal, too.

In X/Y, I want gym leaders that have a varied team, not just one type. They might have a gimmick they use, like trick room or choice pokemon. They should be difficult, and make you use all the pokemon on your team, instead of just one that counters said type. It would be cool if GF disabled switching between KOs for these battles, too.

I remember why the final boss of Pokemon Colloseum was so fun, and that was because he had a varied team with unpredictable strategies (skill swap with slaking). I want gym leaders to be like this, too.

Thoughts?

For Hard Mode.

The series is directed towards children, so it has to be easy to get into. I would approve of this idea by an optional higher difficulty level though.

Nothing like the final boss in Pokemon Colosseum though, that bastard was overlevled. >_> Save that for the champion.

They could have some stat they are based around, and for the first and last ones where they are about average (only much stronger for the last). Kind of like the 4th gen partners. Although that may sound silly when you're reading the gym description.

Hard Mode would also have you losing legitimately to your rival(s) who are a credible threat, just like at the beginning of the game. You wouldn't be forced to win.

Absolutely agree, although type gyms could still be worth doing if trainers specialised loosely in the type, like Jasmine having a Blastoise and/or even an Alakazam (dem spoons).

I'm amused we've reached the point that mixed teams in a Pokémon game are supposedly for "Hard Mode" and not for children, as if the Stadium series was just so unplayable for children.

I was talking less about the mixed typing, and more about the Trick Room, etc stuff.

I liked that one rumor that said the Elite 4 would focus on particular stats rather than types. I think they should do that with gyms, then for the other 2 (of course they could just have 6 gyms, but I REALLY doubt they'll ever do that........), one that focuses on buffing and one for debuffing.

Nah... I think that yeah, certainly you can throw in some other type pokemon, but I'd prefer Gyms sticking with a general type. (I mean like, Jasmine could've had an ampharos, and Giovani could've had a beedrill just.... stuff that fits... Bruno is the perfect example, having a few onixes... it just fit....)
