I have to say, I respect the simplistic plot of Gen 1..

Instead of "saving the world from evil", you're just a kid training to be the best, while kicking Team Rocket's ass in the process. The NPCs seemed more realistic, too.

Not saying that I don't like the new plots, but it would be nice to return to the simplicity of R/B/Y.

This. People who pine for the "old simpler plots" usually do so because they relate the games with those plots with their childhood, which is always fondly remembered.

Pokemon Red/Blue had a terrible plot and wooden characters whose only purpose was for convenient gameplay devices, hints, challenges, and tutorials.
