I think it's pretty safe to say you will never be able to trade between games using only one 3DS.

You wouldn't.. as technically, only one game will be booted up at any given time....

Non-Specific Action Figure has to be in the next Super Smash Bros game. If you agree, send me a message. Number of people who agree: 18 - updated 8 June 2013

Unless they think like me & perhaps include a feature that recognizes games on the same system, like with Shantae: Risky's Revenge & Might Flip Champs.

I wonder what I should do: download or retail. Fortunately, I have 2 3DS's, so trading won't be a problem, but still, let's weigh some pros and cons:

Retail pros:
-Can use on any 3DS & trade with any games with no problems
-Will get Gamestop Powerup points (well, it's a pro for me at least).

Download pros:
-Can clone
-Have multiple save files

Maybe I'd buy one & download the other.

Why do you need both versions? Just trade online for the exclusives. LOL

I always get both. I like having a 2nd game for experimenting & hacking.

One "main" game (the one most of your progress/Pokemon will be on, and the one you'd be bringing to any tournaments you'd be going to), and one "replay through as many times as you want" game

The same way you trade between two physical games with 1 DS, genius.

The only way I could think of trading w/ 1 DS would be the unreliable GTS.

Well there you go. Why would trading be different for physical and digital copies? Its too much work. See what happens when you use your brain?
