Think about it. We could have a grass/water gym in a tropical area or a fire/steel one in a volcanic area, etc etc. It would present interesting ways to strategize against the gyms and I feel it would present interesting combos and thematic associations. Plus, how cool would a dark/ghost gym be? I say yay.

It could be interesting if done right, but also screen headbuttingly frustrating if done wrong.

Dual-type E4 and Champion (unless the Champion's not a type specialist, just like Cynthia or Gary).

Gym Leaders, not really.

Gyms ought to draw Pokémon out from any type, not just 2.

Sure, whatever. Anything different is a welcome change.

That's what I was thinking. It's something a bit different. How many times are we going to go through the same mono type gym carousel? It would probably make the game more difficult, but eh, I say an increased challenge is needed.

Having to focus on two types for each Gym is annoying for some people. The point is to learn the weaknesses for a single type. I can understand for the E4 and maybe the final Gym Leader, because then newer and younger players have already gotten the hang of most type matchups.

"Challenge" might as well translate to "increasing the levels", by the way. Challenge Mode in BW2 did just that.
