Does HP matter much if I'm investing in defense/special defense?

I bred a magnemite, but it's HP is only like 4-5 lol

I then bred one with 28-29 and 30-31 in the other important stats, but it's sturdy and not magnet pulled :(

Yes, HP matters if you're going defensive.

It's kind of like asking if the speed matters on a fast sweeper if you're investing in attack/special attack.

Yeah. You can have ultra-high defense, but it's pointless if you have 1 HP.

The HP / Defense / Special Defense relationship is why Blissey and Chansey tends to invest in the Defense stats rather than HP (since their HP is, like, super super high), and why things like Rotom-W and Dusclops invest in HP (since their HP is super low). Just invest in the lower stat to balance it out.

For defensive Pokemon, it's generally better to have high HP and low defenses than to have low HP and high defenses.

I'd imagine since there are attacks that do a set amount of damage, just investing in DEF and SDEF wouldn't be that good.
I like English dubs.

Yes, look at a lot of walls. Many have really good defenses, but their hp is so low, they're drawn back by it
