How do people even have trouble with Brock back in R/B?

I can understand how using Pikachu would be extremely challenging since you literally take out 1 HP of his Pokémon per Quick Attack.

But Charmander? People seriously have trouble with Brock using Charmander? Ember takes off 1/4 to 1/3 HP off his Pokémon. And the Metal Claw they gave Charmander in FireRed/LeafGreen was bull. Ember was more powerful overall even though it is uneffective.

On Charmander's Metal Claw in FRLG: it's true that Charmander now has an advantage over Brock's Pokemon, but Brock's Pokemon then could also hit Charmander for SE damage with Rock Tomb. Back in RBY, his Pokemon didn't have any Rock-type moves; Bide was their gimmick, which is why Ember Charmander and Confusion Butterfree were so safe.

I was thinking the same thing myself. Even Ember did solid damage to it, Butterfree w/ Confusion wrecked him, and even in Yellow you still had access to Butterfree as well as Mankey and Nidoran w/ Double Kick. (The Nidos didn't learn Double Kick until their 40s in R/B).

Wow, Brock didn't even have Rock Throw to use? Geez. >_>

Faust_8: Would you own slaves if you could?
OW: If I lived on a farm or something, sure. But I have no need of slaves right now.
