I'd attribute the lack of that evil feeling to not having anything like Hydreigon around until Generation V (and let's be honest here, that thing LOOKS evil).
Also, I want to formally ask this, since I wasn't REALLY asking it before: does a demon type (and if we're talking a Demon type, it HAS to embody what we think of as demonic to differentiate itself from Dark types) have any place in Pokemon? Do these creatures NEED to exist or are some people, who CHOOSE to play Pokemon, feel a little emasculated by the presence of a Fairy type?
Nintendo views itself as a toy company and Game Freak wants this to appeal to as many demographics as possible. Should they be putting demons into a game which they're largely targeting at a younger bracket in the first place?
I think Youkai, the inverse of the word. Youkai is used for Demons as a general rule in Japan, and more than once has "Youkai" included Mermaids, Nymphs/Succubi, Gnomes. All of which other cultures classify as Fairy.
Before people argue the "But succubi/incubi are deeeeeemonz!" So are Angels -,- seriously >.> A fallen angel = a DEMON. Which means a risen demon is an ANGEL.
