How many Pokemon do you think we will have in total after X and Y?

We currently have about 653 Pokemon. So I'm thinking we will have about 800 after this. What does everyone else think?

Somewhere between 750 and 800.

They've already stated that we'll have over 700 Pokemon once XY are released, which is kind of a no-brainer. I expect them to add at least 100 new Pokemon, but it won't go up to or over 800. I think if the number was going to exceed 800, they would have said that instead of over 700.

750-800 sounds about right.

"about 653"

Why would it not make more sense to go for 650? What are we, rounding up to the nearest prime?

Either way I'd say maybe 747. Then Gen VII raises it to around 800. Gen 8 raises it to 888, and, somewhere, Death the Kid and Vriska Serket will be proud.

Then comes Gen IX

I saw a Japanese ad for the games with 1000 on it, it's possible but the other 350-something ones not revealed yet could be crap

We have 649 right now, so I'll guess 774, which would put us at 125 new pokemon for the Kalos region. For perspective, here's pokemon introduced by generation:

Gen I: 151
Gen II: 100 (251 total)
Gen III: 135 (386 total)
Gen IV: 107 (493 total)
Gen V: 156 (649 total)

Sure, that makes sense. They're going to add 351 new Pokemon to this game, and that 1000 wasn't referencing anything else. Seems legit.
