How can you pet a Magcargo? He's pure lava and is hotter than the sun!

I think I read somewhere that a Fire Pokemon can adapt the Flames on their Body so they don't hurt their Trainer.

Maybe that also works with the Lava Body of Slugmag and Magcargo.

That was in the anime, a Ponyta/Rapidash could do it. I dont see why it wouldn't work for other fire types though.

Pokemon isn't realistic.

Magcargo is almost twice as hot as the surface of the sun. I think you have more to worry about than being able to pet it.

Given that the main Professor of the region is too damn lazy to do their own research and sends out ten year olds en mass to fill in the Pokedex, I'd imagine most of the entries are filled in by preteens exaggerating what they see wildly out of proportion.

"My Rattata's in the top percentage of Rattata!"
"Yeah, well my Marcargo is like, twice as hot as the sun!"
"That's nothing, I knew a boy who went to bed and woke up as a Kadabra!"

That would actually be a good explanation for how the extraordinary descriptions of some pokemon don't match with gameplay.
