I'd say

1: Venusaur, Blastoise, Charizard
2. Ferraligatr, Typhlosion, Meganium
3. Swampert, Blaziken, Sceptile
4. Infernape, Torterra, Empoleon
5. Serperior, Samurott, Emboar

Emboar is simply easier to use, but does not bring much, if any utility to the table. I'd say the usage difference is based on ease of use, not how handy they can be when a skilled player uses them.

How on earth in any universe is Charizard good at competitive battling?

He put them greatest to least, which to me makes more sense

Post your opinion on the most useful starters from least to greatest competitive battling wise. Also, leave your prediction for gen 6 starters, as we know almost nothing about their capabilities in competitive battling.

Here's my opinion:

Gen 1: Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur
Gen 2: Meganium, typhlosion, Feraligatr
Gen 3: Sceptile, Swampert, Blaziken
Gen 4: Torterra, Empoleon, Infernape
Gen 5: Emboar, Serperior, Samurott
Gen 6: Chespin?, Froakie?, Fennekin?

For me it's

Gen 1: Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise
Gen 2: Feraligator, Typhlosion, Meganium
Gen 3: Sceptile, Blaziken
Gen 4: Empoleon, Infernape
Gen 5: Serperior, Emboar
Gen 6: Froakie

You can't really have an opinion on this. Competitive viability is objective and can be tested.

Useful to ME.
I don't care about competitive. I use what I like and care about in power, moves, abilities, and yes looks.

I only ranked them within their respective generations. Edit: oh you thought I ranked them from least to greatest, instead of greatest to least.

The OP was explicit in its request, save for the whole "lolopinion" part.

Gen 1

Venusaur > Blastoise > Charizard

OU > UU > NU

Gen 2

Feraligatr > Typlhosion > Meganium

Despite being in the same tier, the RU viability thread states Feraligatr is better
Meganium is below both, tier wise.

Gen 3

Blaziken > Swampert > Sceptile

Uber > UU > RU

Gen 4

Infernape > Empoleon > Torterra

Despite not being as good as it used to be, Infernape is slighty better than Empoleon (Who's very viable in OU, and is awesome on UU)
Torterra is alright in NU

Gen 5

Emboar > Sammurott > Serperior

Despite having a higher rank, Emboar and Sammurott had the same viability in NU (S Rank), but Emboar is slight better in RU

Samurott is still one of the best NU Pokemon, while Serperior is ok at best.
