Name a nonsensical typing weakness or resistance, and I'll try explaining it

#1FeatherinePosted 6/30/2013 10:43:16 AM
Typing-based relationships you can ask about includes, but it not limited to:

Ice is super effective against Dragon
Dragon is super effective against Dragon
Steel is resistant against Psychic

If you wish, you may also add why you think the relationship would not work in real-time.

Feel free to debate with me if you feel like you wanna add some points or refute them, but keep it civil because the number of emotionally-high Pokemon forum users here is quite frankly ridiculous.

Ice NFE on water

Ice is a state of water, and is thus a part of water. If you think about Water-type attacks NFE against Water-type Pokemon, it sorta makes sense. Think of it this way; you put ice cubes in a class of water. The ice cubes will slowly melt, and the water will slowly turn cold in order to reach an equal temperature. No matter what, they're the same.

Bug SE to dark.

Good one. This relationship may have something to do with the fact that most Bugs in real-time are nocturnal (or active at night), and are thus adept at functioning and hunting in the dark. A Pokemon's "dark atmosphere" won't stop a Bug-type from completely mauling it.

Have you ever tried to punch or kick a bird before?

Yeah I didn't think so.

On a more serious note, fighting techniques in real time are ground-based. Even if you tried to pull of a jump kick, it takes focus and practice to hit a target, and if you miss, you may struggle to maintain momentum. Flying opponents are also generally evasive, and hitting them effectively requires cheap hits (normal-type attacks) rather than human-made fighting skills.

That would make sense if water was NFE against ice

Fighting SE to Steel

Steel is malleable, and several humans have the skills/strength necessary (Fighting-type) to modify metal's shape and form.

Alternatively, kick a car and run your key blade through the paint,
