Black/White or Black2/White2?

BW for story and BW2 for everything else.

If you care about the story and lore (there's more story than ever this time), then definitely play BW1 first and THEN BW2. You don't need to play both Black and White, just one or the other. Then if you only want to play one of the next set, play the same color (so Black -> Black 2, not Black -> White 2) and the story will make the most sense. Not that it's THAT big of deal since the stories are so similar, but that's the most 'canon' way to go about it.

Also, you can link the games together using 2 DS systems or by registering them on Pokemon Global Link website, and there will be flashbacks in BW2 that expand on the story and what happened between BW and BW2.

So if you care about that kind of stuff, play BW1 first, then BW2.

Overall, BW2 is the better game with improved mechanics, lots of cool new features, etc. If you just want the generic Pokemon experience and don't care about the story, it's perfectly fine to just skip to BW2 because it is better in every way. Except for the female lead character is much cuter in BW1 LOL (but I love both... just Hilda is <3)

The intro to BW1 before the title screen itself shows how much focus is on the story this time. 90% of the intro is story cutscene instead of gameplay or random kids running around and pictures of Pokemon. Just the last couple of seconds are dedicated to that.

IMO the BW1 story is well worth seeing. But I know not everyone cares about it.

If you really want to see the story watch the cutscenes online, you'll probably regret not playing b2 if you have the option. The Pwt letting you fight all the past champions and gym leaders (except Koga), pokewood letting you experience a beautiful love story, a medal challenge to keep you occupied for a lifetime there's just so much more to do.

I don't think they're considering playing ONLY one or the other. They're just asking if BW is skippable. I'd assume from the way they asked, if they played BW, they would then play BW2 after. They wouldn't miss BW2.
