Gyarados is Dragon/Water and you know it.

Not only that, he is always in Dragon Teams, like Lance.

And he would completely outclass Kingdra and be way OP. Good job. I'm sure we'd all love for Gyarados to get one Dragon Dance off then hit practically everything for neutral damage at least with Waterfall and Outrage, with Moxie continuing to boost his Attack further.

Lance used anything that looks draconian, it doesn't mean they should have been Dragons. Where's the petition for Aerodactyl to become part Dragon, eh?

Water/Flying makes sense on Gyarados, there's no need to retcon a type from Gen I when it ALREADY makes sense as-is. Not to mention that, you know, retconning a Pokemon's type isn't something that they do, besides tacking on a new type that's being introduced.

No. Not at all. Gyarados is never depicted as flying in the main series games. Charizard's type makes sense. It breathes fire and flies. Gyarados doesn't learn any flying type moves besides Bounce. Not even fly, a move that has pretty much been given to any pokemon with flight capabilities.

If anything, Gyarados should be a plain water type.

Claire also has a Gyarados.
As somebody else here explained. Gyarados doesn't even learn flying moves.
