New Tri-Type Mechanic?

#21DaemonscharmPosted 7/10/2013 5:44:27 PM
I really enjoy the current set up. Tri typing would be a headache when it came to weakness and resistance.

Butterfree is a great example. Bug/Flying that learns a great deal of psychic moves.

Lapras is Ice/Water than can learn psychic

Chandelure is a fire/ghost that can learn a plethora of other elemental moves. Same with Alakazam.

So what they don't get 3 STABs..

None of them. Tri-Types are a bad idea and should never happen.

The elemental rock-scissors-paper thing is already way more complicated in this RPG series than other RPGs with EIGHTEEN types as of gen 6. Adding more types to pokemon will just make the whole RPS calculations even more complicated. I know a lot of people like mathematics (including me), but putting too much emphasis on mental arithmetic for determining the effective power of a move based on attack type/STAB and defence type(s) could really start detracting from the gameplay for a lot of people. I mean, memorising 324 type-matchups along with having to apply 3 of them to a tri-type pokemon could start proving too much. Pokemon is already complicated as it is, it doesn't need any more complicated mathematics that players have to deal with explicitly.

I'd be okay with it if Tri Typing was only for Legandaries, and we got more of the good Dual Types for normal Pokemon.

Mew = Fairy/Psychic
Latios and Latias should be Dragon/Psychic/Flying.
Celebi = Grass/Fairy/Psychic
Rayquaza = Dragon/Flying/Dark
Jirachi = Fairy/Steel/Psychic
Dialga = Steel/Dragon/Dark
Palkia = Water/Dragon/Dark
Darkrai = Dark/Fairy/Ghost

I honestly want a Three Stage Evolution for every Dual Type.

Charizard - Fire/Flying/Fighting
Typhlosion - Fire/Fairy/Fighting

Wut.

Fighting would make Charizard just 2x vulnerable to Rock instead of OHKO 4x vulnerable.

No ****ing clue what favors Fairy does for Typhlosion other than STAB bonus effectiveness on Dragons but depending on what weaknesses Fairy might have, Fighting will at least keep Typhlosion on par against Steel and Rock if not cover for them.

Are you stupid? It was clearly a joke about about the fire starters always ending up as fire/fighting.

Tri-type mechanic is a no-no in my book. And I am relieved the fan-base is not in charge of Pokémon.
