To be honest the thing about gen one is that all of the monster designs had that classic anime manga style to them. Even the ditto and digllet Pokemon.
But when you get to the new gen, you can't tell it's anime anymore. At least vanillite looks like slime from DQ, but crap like that ghost robot line is just shameful. I do like most of the designs this gen. Pangoro seems like a super fighting battle bot thing which is cool. But it's not always nostalgia. There is a clear straying from the Japanese roots of illustration styles. --- FC - 4639-8953-6150

I personally think the design is god awful and that I could have designed better in second grade. My friend hated him too and recently moved to Japan and showed his work to companies. He's already got connections to bandai namco, their impressed with his work. He wants to eventually see what he can do with the Pokemon company. His Japanese is on point as well. He might contribute more than that other foreigner on the team. With stuff like golurk it's shouldn't be too hard. --- FC - 4639-8953-6150
If I'm designing a site would I want it to look different on every page? Would I want different colors on every subsection?
There's a difference between designing a website and designing hundreds of monsters that are supposed to be unique. --- That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die.
