They are normal-type, so they have STAB Tackles to get you through the first 1/5 of the game. They evolve by level 20, which puts them ahead of most other pokes in the second 1/5 of the game. By the middle of the game is when other pokes start evolving, leaving them behind. Some still have usefulness as HM slaves, and others can still contribute thanks to STAB Return and Strength. They are mildly useful for the third 1/5 of the game. By the 4/5 point, most of the pokes in the region should be available and a lot of them will outclass the rodents. But by this point, their job is over - their purpose was to GET you to the mid-game, and if you are at this point, they have succeeded.
Skyrim is the girl who keeps breaking my heart, yet is so hot I still keep coming back on the chance I may get to sleep with her again. - Spurner
I've never found them annoying to train, and I have all of them EV trained.
-Raticate with Guts really is insane. That thing won me some online battles in PBR.
-Choice Band Furret is.....alright. The Speed is an issue at 306 max, but it hits fairly hard with tons of coverage. Not GR level though.
-Linoone. Pickup is enough reason to use it, but it's only claim to fame is Belly Drum/ExtremeSpeed. I'm kinda torn on that. If you can get it setup, sure, but good luck.
-Biberel. Waterfall/Thunder Wave/Headbutt/Curse. Or replace Headbutt with SuperPower. Amnesia? 1 use boosts you up to a +4 with Simple. Curse gets you 2 Attack/Defense boosts in one turn? Yawn if you don't like T Wave? That thing is amazing.
-Watchhog? A worse Raticate with a better shiny form. Anayltic could be fun, but I would assume it would need tremendous investment in defenses to use it. It's movepool is respectable though.
