I think it was 1996. or late 1995.

You do know that Pokemon came out in '97 in Japan and '98 everywhere else, right?

I know I was I think in 2nd grade or 3rd so it had to be one of them.

EDIT: You're full of it

Yeah, I made a mistake there. I can never quite remember the Japanese release date. Sorry about that.

I still think you're full of it, though.

Had Red before it was released outside of Japan but I still remember the day I got my english copy of Pokemon Red on release day outside of Japan then took the bus home from school with my mother, reading the manual that was designed to look like a leather-bound field journal and reading the tips to choose Bulbasaur or Squirtle to make it easier and thinking, "Yeah, get ******" then choosing Charmander :3

Good times...

Surprised - and kind of concerned - about the lack of latecomer representation here. Here's hoping XY will reach a new audience beyond the regulars.

My first Pokémon video game was Black just back in August 2011, when I got my first DS. Until then the only "playing Pokémon" I did was the TCG, roughly until WotC stopped publishing their magazine Top Deck back in 2000.

From when it was released. Pokemon Red was my first game boy color game. I played gold after that, but then kind of fell away. Been thinking about trying this when it comes out.

I started with Gen 1, but wasn't really exposed to it until the anime started airing in America, and I didn't get my first game (Blue) until later.
