Everything in this post is wrong.

Soft resetting is resetting the game without turning off the system. It was used to obviously reset the game without needing to turn off the system. >.>

On the GBA games, it was Start + Select + A + B.
On the DS games it was Start + Select + L + R.

Wrong. That is a hard reset. I soft reset involves pressing a combination of buttons in order to restart the game with out turning the system off (or closing the game and starting it back up again if you're on a 3DS).

Hard(ware)/Cold reset - Turning off and then turning on the hardware (in this case, the DS). The important factor here is that the power to the device is shut off.

Soft(ware)/Warm reset - Resetting the software (in this case, the game) while keeping the power to the device on. For the DS Pokemon games, it's pushing A+B+Start+Select at the same time.

Soft Reset = L+R+Start+Select

Hard Reset = Slightly press POWER button to take back to home screen.

Rage Reset = Tun off game. Turn back on.
