No there doing the opposite since mega pokemon won't take dex space like a normal evolution would. We should get our 100+ new pokemon along with a decent amount of megas maybe 30+ hopefully.

I'm making a mega evolution in terms of design and ability is a lot easier than creating a new pokemon and its evolutionary line. What with multiple abilities, typings, move sets to develop with completely new basestats compared to an ability/type/stats boost. Also mega evolutions design wise (bar Mewtwo) dont even look like full evolutionary steps; both mega and normal forms are clearly the same pokemon "species", while something like wartortle and blastoise are not. That being said, sure, Mega pokemon probably took some design time away from what could have been a dozen or so completely new pokemon. But i wouldnt prefer another butt faced rodent to Mega Gyarados anyways.
