I personally don't see the logic in suddenly making a charmeleon species suddenly grow wings in its last stage.

The Nidos learn Dragon Pulse. So does Aggron, Arcanine, Steelix and Scrafty. None of these are Dragon-like.

See, I think Charizard's problem is that he lacks a certain flair. Also he doesn't like rock, more of a pop kinda guy.

Same could be said about the dozens of other pokemon who literally undergo the same type of evolution.

well you can say the same for insect metamorphosis (which are what evolutions are mostly based on)..as the larvea is quite differant then the adult stage in some of them..
