Plasma? Seriously? They weren't going for world domination and they went against their own beliefs by fighting with CAPTURED pokemon
Ghetsis and co. didn't actually care about liberating Pokémon -- it was a ploy to get people to release their Pokémon, so there would be less human-trained Pokémon to fight back against them when they tried to use the power of the legendary dragon to take over.
A lot of the grunts went along with the "liberate!" spiel, but only because they just wanted to steal people's Pokémon, not because they actually cared about the Pokémon or believed they should be liberated.
Overall I still think it was hard to take them seriously.
Cyrus was the only villain I really ever cared for.
