Why do people want them to go back to essentially ZERO plot?

This is 2013... we need a half-decent plot. B/W's plot was actually fairly well executed, and I would love to see an even better plot for the next generation of Pokemon :d

Because even with "plot" it is still extremely lackluster. There is a difference between quality writing and dialogue. More dialogue does not make more of a plot either.

I did have a problem with this in Pokemon, because it seemed like each time the plots became more ridiculous instead of just being more fleshed out. It seemed like each generation had to up the ante each time rather than just having a solid plot.

B/W touched on rather deep issues for a kids game, such as the idea of liberating Pokemon and freeing them from confinement...

...even though in the end you find out that the evil team is just in it for world domination as usual >_>

i still dont see how these issues were deep or remarkable. we've had that since episode 1 when pikachu doesnt want to get into the ball. i think gen5 would have had some potential, but it wasnt used in the right way. and i really hope team flare will just try to make money and i BET it will be about (geothermal?) energy. maybe they will make a monopole on energy or something and are getting the prices higher and higher and everyone loses their existence because they cant produce their stuff anymore and so on...would be more of a polit-thriller or something. id love this.

The difference is, that Pikachu was always a rebellious pokemon, Prof. Oak even said so to Ash in the beginning. After the Spearow attack, he started to trust Ash.

Ghetsis was the obvious evil character. They want to make kids think, but not too hard, which was why they kind of forced Team Plasma's evil plan to be found out pretty early in the game. N is supposed to be the idealist, the poster boy of Team Plasma.

Simple is more nostalgic. But gods and all that stuff is cooler.

No please. I don't like the basic stuff. The stronger legends and smarter evil teams is what makes the new games more interesting.

So, from what we know right now (which is very little, but I like to speculate) gamefreak may be getting back to basics.

The legends:
(Again, we don't know everything about them)
From what I can tell, these cover legends don't seem to be gods, created the world, broke off from one super pokemon or anything like that. Just rare, powerful pokemon.

Xerneas is the Pokemon of life and Yveltal is destruction. I think they're gonna be pretty godly.

Honestly, a good plot is great and all, but does anyone actually even play for the plot? It's clear that battling is the best and most important part of these games. Hell, the graphics probably intrigue me more than the plot.

Actually, a LOT more people play for the story, and the ''collection'' part, rather than the competitive scene.

Black and White proved that Pokemon games can have decent plots.

Black/White 2 showed us that Gamefreak can't create said decent plots consistently.

What nobody seems to understand is that plots are vital for creating epic battles. No fight in the game can be epic if there's no story behind it, unless the challenge, atmosphere, etc. happen to be exceptional. We need plot-backed battles now more than ever, since challenge is officially a thing of the past.

Eh, it's like 2 or 3 people who post a lot, making it look like more people hate the game than is actually true. -LordRattergun

Norse mythology. That's what they're based off of. So in a sense, they are gods.

Challenge is a thing of the past?

Pokemon was never challenging, in fact, the first gens were the easiest(with gen 1 being pretty laughable).
