figured it be fun to do a little countdown untill x and y come out. so every day lets discuss a starter pokemon. not the whole line. just a single starter.
lets start with pokemon number 001 first pokedex. bulbasaur.
bulbasaur is a funny little guy. out of all starters he is the only one to have dual typing in there base stage, whats more he shares that typing with two other lines in gen 1, making 3 out of the possible 5 grass lines of gen 1 grass/poison. ironically nothing about his base stage screams /poison type.
in gen 1 he was kinda the easy mode for begging game, being x2 effective on the first 2 gyms which is made a little more ironic considering his grass typing really doesnt lend it self to being the greatest defensive type. nor the best offensive type.
dandelion + flabebe + fairy wind = saddest moment in pokemon. 3ds fc. jd, 0602-6823-9646 or 0146.9112.0071
My favorite starter of any gen. Not because he made the early stages of the game easy (which he did), but just because he was my first starter choice when i was young and knew nothing about pokemon. My naive 10 year-old self raised it to level 78 and beat the whole game with it alone, pretty much..
I've always felt kind of bad for it, with it being the least popular starter of the gen. Charmander was insanly popular, and Squirtle had lots of fans too, but Bulbasaur? Not too many chose it despite being (imo) the best designed one. Maybe being on the NA box art didn't help, and maybe the more traditionally "cool" Charizard and Blastoise overshadowed the more nontraditionally designed Venasaur.
It deserved better.
On 12/02/12 I said I wouldn't change this until something impossible happened. Now, Earthbound just got re-released in the US.
