What exactly do you want Game Freak to do with one?
Only way I can think of that could make it obvious enough without insulting gay people (on the stereotype that they'll obnoxiously yell it at everyone who doesn't know whenever they get the chance) is someone coming out of the closet in the story, and even that's a little iffy.
Say there was this random house in which lived two men married to each other. What would they say when you talk to them?
"I'm Joe and this is my husband Jay. We're so happy together!"
Even then a lot of people would be skeptical that that isn't a translation problem or the devs somehow putting the wrong model there.
I guess saying weird things to random strangers isn't out of the norm in the Pokemon world, but usually you don't find out someone's gay until it comes up in conversation. Since our protagonist will most likely be silent like the other ones, I don't see how anyone would get the chance to to tell you that they're gay.
This is Japan after all, the undisputed king of stereotypes (sit back down, America). They'd likely make a gay character all flamboyant and stereotypical which would make y'all even angrier.
I'm not bashing gay people or anything, but I just don't think Pokemon is the best place to put such characters simply because there wouldn't be many ways to.
Maybe there's a Game Freak HQ in Kalos? Where a dev says "See that girl standing next to the top-left corner of the Eiffel Tower? I made her myself. She's a lesbian, by the way."
and yes I got the names Joe and Jay from Glass Joe and Gabby Jay from Punch-Out, they're both French so why not
But yea, a same-sex couple would be the only way. I'm all for gay rights, but I would be mad if they made a story about someone coming out of the closet. That would just be stupid and unnecessary.
And another thing. We might already have gay people in Pokémon. Do you know Bryce's sexual orientation? No. He might be gay, there's no way to tell unless he said he was getting married to a man or something.
I can't wait until homosexuality in fiction becomes a character trait that doesn't need pointing out every few minutes.
Yeah, pretty much. You'd be hard pressed in a game like Pokemon to show that a character is gay without hitting us over the head with it. Having a guy introduce his boyfriend or husband would be nice. XD Not expecting it. I mean, sexuality just isn't something that has much of a place in the franchise. Even male/female romance hardly ever comes into play in any of the main storylines.
But yeah, that having been said, I would be fully supportive if it happened and was done well.
I'm not a GRRL gamer; I'm just another kid who had a Nintendo and never grew out of it.
Simple. As much representation as heterosexuality gets, do the same thing with homosexuality. Hetero couple trainers? Have homo couple trainers.
That's it. No need for more explicitness.
But they don't need to do that just for the sake of doing it. If you don't have a gay couple on your street, it doesn't make sense to arrange one just for the picture. I must assume that if a character as a fever in the game, they should create one with diarrhea.
