What do you think of Mega Charizard?

#11BlueDryBones1Posted 9/5/2013 6:25:30 PM
Both the Ninetails and Solar Power cases. Can run Solar Power till you lose Ninetails. Makes it harder to stop Sun weather from coming back up and Charizard has 2 options that hit Politoed and T-tar hard in Solarbeam and Focus Blast. T-tar switching in should be scared Politoed can come in on a Solarbeam since he'll change weather. Unless you predict it and switch to Drought which probably has less priority than a switch so you get Drought again and then Solarbeam crippling the Politoed for the rest of the match. OU weather wars will get more interesting and I feel sun teams may get a bit more use.

I really like the design of it. Kind of wish it swapped out the flying secondary type for dragon, but oh well. I'm waiting to learn more about mega evolutions before I try to get too hyped on anything, though. I'm sure I'll use Megazard for the hell of it, but it might end up being hard to justify it for competitive play, depending on what my other mega evolution options end up being for any particular team.

Overrated as usual.

Also on the Poll options Skarmory isn't OHKO due to Sturdy's Buff this gen.

At least it's THKO'd at best through.

HP / 252+ SpD Skarmory in sun: 702-828 (210.17 - 247.9%) -- guaranteed THKO due to strudy

Charizard used Fire Blast!
The attack missed!

OR

Come back, Skarmory!
Go, Politoed!
It began to rain.
Charizard used Fire Blast!

OR

Charizard used Fire Blast!
It's super-effective!
Skarmory survived thanks to Sturdy!
Skarmory used Whirlwind!

or

Trainer called back Skarmory
Trainer sent out Politoed
Politoed's Drizzle made it rain (sun was previous turn caused by Ninetails)
Charizard Mega Evolved
Charizard's Drought caused Harsh Sunlight
Charizard use Solarbeam (predicted the switch)
Politoed lost x% of its health

and you gain some momentum. There can be many advantages to having 2 Drought users. Skarm can use Whirlwind but assuming your running Charizard you'd be crazy not to run Rapid Spin support. Tentacruel may do well since it can sponge most hits Rain Teams have.

What if I meant switch after Charizard uses goes Mega? ;)

I think it's aesthetically interesting, but I'm not looking forward to hearing rabid fanboys go on about how this is stupid because "Troll Freak" didn't make it /Dragon, people going on about how it's going to be OU for sure, etc. when all we know about it is that it has Drought and one of its stats will be stronger by an unknown degree.

Yeah how about some options like:
"Looks cool cant wait to use him against the gym leaders"
Or
"Not liking the look, not as good as normal zard"

Im stoked to literally have a team full of mega-able pokemon and just switch back and forth using all of them after each battle.

Yeah which is why you really have to play it smart for when you decide to change it Mega when against another weather team.

people going on about how it's going to be OU for sure

Unless we get a lot more weather starters this gen, OU is likely considering Vulpix got banned from UU... Vulpix.

Not that that means zard can do well in OU.
