This is a split board - You can return to the Split List for other boards.

Would you give up a turn in battle if you could...

Only outside of player vs player battles and player vs npc battles.

Knowing the moves of the opponent would considerably change the meta game. Prediction is a huge part of the competitive experience. You can kinda fake people out atm too. That would go out the window if they gave a scan.

I've wanted this since forever. It would make hunting for specific Pokemon so much better than just throwing balls at everything and having to check their natures/abilities afterward. Especially for legendaries.

It should have several functions though. Pressing the R button will bring up a new menu where you can choose the following options:

-Scan
-Info
-Advice

Scan is the default option, and the only selectable option if you have not yet recorded the Pokemon in the Pokedex. Scanning takes up a turn, but gives you detailed information of that specific opponent by opening up its summary page on the bottom screen for you to look through (giving you data on its Nature, Ability, Item and Moves). This option is only usable on wild Pokemon.

Info is only available if the target is already caught and recorded in your dex. When selecting this option in battle, it opens up your Pokedex to the species page of the opponent. This will give you a quick run down on basic info of the target as a refresher in battle, such as Type, possible Abilities, and learnable moves. This does not take up a turn and usable in both single player and multiplayer.

Advice is also only available if the target is already caught and recorded in your dex. When selecting this option in battle, the game gives you tips on the best types of attacks to use against the selected target based on its weaknesses/resistances, and reminds you of any immunities of the target. This does not take up a turn and usable in both single player and multiplayer.

Basically, take the Help Menu idea from FRLG, but integrate it into the battle system through the Pokedex as an actual tool.
