maybe ice beam is a bad example but say scald or thunderbolt

Removing the base critical hit rate and keeping all other critical hit rates the same as they are now would be a boon.

Or, you know, crits could not exist, and statuses could work off of stack systems rather than being all or nothing low chances. It's things like these that make me never take competitive pokemon battling seriously compared to games that lack RNG elements. RNG keeps things exciting for casuals, it's why Nintendo thought adding random tripping to Brawl was a great idea and why criticals were invented in the first place for Dungeons and Dragons. When it comes to actual competitive gameplay, strategy, and in the case of real time, reaction speed, should be the only determining factors.

But then with a razor claw Scald's CT% Burn would be over 40%.

No thanks.

Then defense-boosters would be unstoppable.

Also, it's an RPG, critical hits are a staple of the genre.

Shield-breaker moves. And just because everyone's doing it doesn't mean it's a good idea.

This nonsense again? If you don't want critical hits, stop playing RPGs and get the hell off the pokemon forum.
There is more than just Good and Evil, Light and Dark, Black and White. There's a myriad of colors that you won't see if you look at the world in two extremes.
