You start off as a nurse at a Pokemon Center and decide you want to become a Pokemon master. Or for like a biker you'd be part of a biker gang and decide to become a Pokemon master.

Yeah you could buy specific clothes for each characters class.

changing class at will would be a necessity though, or at least have the ability some way. maybe you can only change at home? or at any pokemon center? some new building in one specific city?

idunno theres a million ways to run it but I would NOT want to be stuck in a single class for the entire game

In all seriousness though, I approve of this idea, though you're not the first to think of it.

Here are some of my ideas:

Gambler: Receive 10% more money after winning battles.
Ace Trainer: Pokemon receive 5% more XP and gain EVs more quickly.
Bug Catcher (or other type specialist): Friendship with Bug-types (or other type) raises more quickly, more likely to successfully catch wild Bug-types (or other type).
Ranger: Harvesting berries yields more.
Doctor/Nurse: Healing items restore 25% more HP.

i think this should be a thing anyway, let pokemon naturally recover over time, nothing fast like 1 hp per step but maybe 1 hp per 50-75 steps maybe? no pp regen and maybe a rare chance if any at curing statuses tho

This makes me think that Pokemon Centers should cost money to use if that is implemented.

I think a class system would work if it didn't influence the actual battles, but maybe outside variables like catch rates, natures, berries growth, etc.

Genius. If your in the Bug Catcher class, the Net Ball has just became the Master Ball for bug types lol
