So there's a tournament coming up at the university. I don't go to school here, but I do work in the on-campus pub. I've never entered a tournament before and I was wondering if you guys could suggest a good, balanced team of 3 Pokemon. The following Pokemon are banned. (Thanks in advance!)
I like how Blaziken and Excadrill apparently have legendary status. :p
And obvious Imposter Ditto is obvious. Hell, can you use three of the same Pokemon? :p
They're using what most non-nintendo tournaments would consider to be the uber clause and uber list.
But if that is the only rule, I would consider Drizzle/Swift Swim with Politoed and Kingdra, perhaps.
An extremely strong team that basically dominates the battle subway is:
Gengar @Focus Sash Levitate Timid 252 Speed, 252 Sp.Att, 4 HP -Destiny Bond -Shadow Ball -Focus Blast -Thunderbolt *Gengar has quite excellent coverage with this moveset, and is strong enough to 2HKO most opponents. The idea is to get that kill, then Destiny Bond the next pokemon (assuming you've been brought to 1 HP). 2 kills for one pokemon makes all the difference in 3s and Gengar just makes it happen so easily. There are very few pokemon that can outspeed Gengar that your other two pokemon shouldn't be able to handle. Be mindful of non-normal or fighting priority attacks. I found that 85% of the time, Gengar would get those 2 KOs no sweat. Truly scary to deal with.
Garchomp @Choice Band Sand Veil Jolly 252 Speed, 252 Atk, 4 HP -Outrage -Earthquake -Fire Fang/Aqua Tail -Dual Chop/Rock Slide *The breaker. Especially if Gengar was successful in KOing two pokemon on his own. Garchomp will likely have no trouble at all putting down the 3rd. Dual Chop if you think substitute would be a problem. I also prefer Fire Fang as it would be the only fire attack in the team and Ferrothorn could be a problem without it.
Suicune @Chesto Berry Water Absorb (is that even out yet?) Bold 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp.Def -Calm Mind -Rest -Scald -Substitute *The bulk. May not work as well against non-AI opponents since the idea for battle subway was to switch Suicune in on opponents it could easily set up on. Your mileage may vary but Suicune is quite impressive at taking hits and if it can spread burn around thats fantastic.
I'm sure this team is quite strong for player vs player battling, but just remember it was designed with AI opponents in mind.
Oh, wow. Lots to consider, and no I can't use 3 of the same Pokemon. This is the full rules.
