For kicks, I have tallied how many type combinations have been used and which ones haven't been used. Just to see which types get spread out the most and which ones don't. This includes the confirmed Fairy types and includes mono types. Of course, all of these are susceptible to change in X and Y.

Grass - 14/18
Lacks pairings with Dragon, Fire, Ghost, and Fairy

Fire - 13/18
Lacks pairings with Grass, Ice, Poison, Water, and Fairy

Water - 17/18
Lacks a pairing with Fire

Electric - 13/18

Lacks pairings with Dark, Fighting, Poison, Psychic, and Rock

Bug - 12/18

Lacks pairings with Dark, Dragon, Ice, Normal, Psychic, and Fairy

Flying - 16/18

Lacks pairings with Fighting and Fairy

Normal - 9/18

Lacks pairings with Bug, Dark, Dragon, Ghost, Ground, Ice, Poison, Rock, and Steel

Poison - 9/18

Rock - 13/18

Dark - 14/18

Steel - 15/18

Fairy - 6/18

Lacks pairings with Bug, Dark, Dragon, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Poison, and Rock

Well, that's it. Of course, as I mentioned earlier, we're likely going to get more of these covered, with the most obvious case being the Fairy type. Normal and Poison are the least paired with type. Surprisingly, 7 of Poison's 9 typing combinations occurred in Gen 1. Any particular type combinations you wish to see? Do you think we'll finally close the gap on a lot of these? Discuss.

I want every Electric combo we haven't had yet to happen in this gen. Especially Dark and Fighting.

Nice.

I wonder which is gonna hit the 18 mark first. Water or Flying. All that is missing is Water / Fire and Fighting / Flying, Fairy / Flying. I could see the final Flying Pairings filled before Water / Fire.

I want Ice / Poison, Ice / Steel, Ice / Fairy, Grass / Dragon, Poison / Dragon, Fairy / Dragon, Fighting / Ghost, Rock / Ghost and Fairy / Ghost.

Can you guess my three favorite types. Lol.

Looking at them, I always think Shinx and its evos should be Electric/Dark

I hope we get Poison/Steel this gen. The ultimate Fairy resister.

I want Electric/Dark, Electric/Psychic, Bug/Dark, Bug/Psychic, Ghost/Grass, Bug/Dragon, Grass/Dragon, Flying/Fighting, and Fighting/Ghost most of all.

It always bummed me that Luxray wasn't Electric/Dark, so I've wanted one since then. Electric/Psychic makes too much sense to not exist yet, same with Bug/Dark.

Also, while Poison probably isn't my favorite type, I think they really should show it some love.

You forgot Electric/Grass, Electric/Fire, and Electric/Ice, because Rotom doesn't count.

Rotom doesn't count, but a type combination that is only on an event Legendary, that can only obtain it in battle, after using a move to transform, does count? (Meloetta with Normal/Fighting)
