Why does Water resist Steel?

I think it might have to do with old Chinese element stuff... Steel enriches water in that cycle, water nourishes wood, wood fuels fire, fire fertilizes the earth, earth gives birth to metal. the other way around, steel smashes wood, wood takes over earth, earth contains water, water douses fire, and fire melts metal. Just an idea!

Sink pipes are used to hold water. Said pipes are made out of metal. That is my logic.
