Yeah man, Gen 1 designs are the greatest.

That's the thing. The actual pokemon were pretty good.

Just not in-game. A lot of them looked terrible in-game.

More anatomical detail does not equal better execution. That is completely subjective. For example, I personally like zebstrika better. I feel his design has much more personality than rapidash, ESPECIALLY around the eyes.

thats why i always pointed out that i, personally, love naturalism. i just want to explain WHY i like some things better and some things less. its undeniable that everyone has their own taste
an just like you quoted in your post: they are intenionally doing this, reducing details, taking away the naturalism. which further proves my point that those things lack in the newer artworks.

look at this. it has no barbs, no stings, etc. but still its round puffs have more detail to them than any barbed stingy gen5 artwork. i bet, if this pokemon would be drawn in gen5 art style, it would just have 3 white orbs around it with no details.

Yup, that image captures why Gen 1 designs > Gen 5 designs.

However, the new Gen is the new Gen 1. :)

That's why I love it.

And this doesn't really mean better; it means simpler, which is up to you whether you like it more or not. I like simple Pokémon, like most of gen 1 and Pokémon like Galvantula and Haxorous.

Then I'd say this is less a strike against the designs and more the art style. I do admit that it's a nice touch.

Oh, make no mistake, I wasn't attacking your opinion at all. I can totally see why somebody would favor those older designs. I added that last part as a response to the topic itself which makes the argument that gen 1 is superior because it's more, as you say, naturalistic.

Thinking about that pic its amazing how something so little as some small lines on the orbs adds so much to it.

I love how TC posts a pic that points out how much more detailed Ponyta is than Keldeo, then defends Seel for its simplicity.

You know Gen 5 pokemon aren't fitting to my personal taste when seel's simple design is, in my opinion, more visually appealing.

Editing my quote because you know you're wrong. You're pathetic.

on the contrary, he edited it because you were wrong my dear...

I agree with the point of this topic although you did pick one of the worst gen V designs to prove your point. I just don't like how cartoony things have gotten.

And I hate Beartics design. It has an awesome concept but is drawn like crap. It has zero presence, doesn't seem powerful or inspiring like a polar bear should. The lack of detail on it is amazing, hopefully it'll look okay in 3D.

Throh, Sawk and Archeops I feel are the best of Gen V's pokemon.
