I know pretty much nothing about Gen V, so in preparation of X and Y coming out I'll get whatever Gamefaqs tells me to get.

Either Black 2 or White 2. They have a better selection of Pokemon, and in terms of stuff to do they're improved over Black and White. The story's a bit weaker, but it's nothing terrible.

Black or White 1 if you want a good story. For a better everything else and MUCH better post-game, get Black 2 specifically if you want Challenge Mode, or either if you don't care. I voted Black 2 just for the better everything except story, plus the challenge mode.
