Dragon/Fire and Water/fairy are the best types offensively.
Dragon/Fire's STABs are only resisted by: Fairy/Water Fairy/Rock Fairy/Dragon Fairy/Fire Steel with Flash Fire
Water/Fairy's STABs are only resisted by: Water/Steel Poison/Grass Poison/Water Steel/Grass Steel with Water absorb
Dragon/Fighting does come close though it's STABs are only resisted by: Fairy Steel/Ghost Ghost/fairy Fairy/Bug Fairy/Psychic Fairy/Flying Fairy/Poison --- Friend Codes,NN and PSN is in profile People who think I'm Awesome: 17

Good Offensive typings will typically include Rock, Ice, Fighting, Ground, and sometimes Dragon in them. Water, Dark and Ghost aren't too shabby either. Electric is only good because Water is a great defensive type.
Good Defensive typings will typically include Steel, Water, Dragon, and Ground while avoiding types such as Rock or Ice.
Lol you forgot Fire. This gen it will be particularly important with the nerf to fighting and ice, and buff to steel. Pretty much the best special attacking type. --- I am iKhanic. REBORN!

Pure Electric with Levitate. Unless one uses a Mold Breaker or Gravity, it has no weaknesses.
Dark-Ghost is still a valid option as good, only weak to Fairy. --- One of the many fools who facepalmed after throwing a thief armed with a Magichanged Prinny.

I see what you did there. A mon of that type could be beastly and horribly susceptible to Fairy. --- A real squid? That's even worse than an illusion! Where's my shotgun?

Lacking weaknesses isn't good enough to make good defensive typing. That's why Sableye and Spiritomb aren't actually that great currently. A good defensive Pokemon needs resistances. It'f fine if it has a few bad weaknesses too, because those can be dealt with via partners. It's why Ferrothorn + Jelliscent is great or why Celebi + Heatran is great or why Skarmory + Blissey is great.
