As others have said, a million times over, that's just a robe, hardly an example of someone being a mage, what is traditional about wearing a robe... other than practically anyone other than a knight would wear one?
You seriously think the pointed black-hat isn't a more common example of a magic-user than simply wearing a robe?
I run a spellcaster Yugioh deck. Yes I do think a pointed black hat isn't a more common example of a magic user than one who wears a robe. A Staff is. In fact the common theme is robes, with hats usually being appropriated to characters more in line with the Dark Magician/Silent Magician.

I like Delphox as it is. And most of us consider the staff the first checkpoint of a mage, the robes the second, and the hats really are a kind of 'are you trying to go with the disney/halloween stereotype?' thing.
