How does protean work?

I know if Froakie uses a move, he becomes that type.

Does he keep that type until he uses a different move, retaining that types weaknesses and resistances, or is he only that type WHILE he is using the move. Does he revert back to a water dark when the move is over.

Protean user is considered to be whatever type the attack was for the purposes of that attack.

So always water/dark.

Once Foakie changed its Type, it stays that Type until it changes again or switches out.

Steel Type alone is responsible for the slow Death of the Pokemon Franchise.
Gym Leader Wulfric is mai Husbando!

The above is wrong. (the first response)

Protean changes the user to the type of the move used, it does not gain any types, it becomes that type only. It does this for every attack used, so if you use a dark attack, he becomes dark only, if you use a psychic attack afterwards, he becomes psychic only. This also provides STAB for every attack.

Greninja uses Hydro Pump, he becomes water only
Greninja uses Toxic Spikes, he becomes poison only
Greninja uses Shadow Sneak, he becomes Ghost only

No, it changes to the type of the attack it's about to use, and stays that way until it's switched out or made to change via Protean again.
