The Official Kalos Fishing Guide to Shiny Pokemon

I'm happy for those who've gotten shinies from this method.

Ive only got my non chained exeggcute right now...

But i'll be back to using this method later today.

I had to raise my cashflow and pokemon lvls so I've been at the 2 Star Cafe (near the pokeball shop) pretty much all day yesterday doing repeatable tripple battles for ~ 10 -20 big mushrooms + ~9k in prize money... Honestly it's a great way to work up your cash flow, even if it does cost 15k to start it. The mushrooms alone actually give you back your cost and then some, and the 9k prize money sweetens the pot.

All the pokemon lvls there are 31, except the player's pokemon, but it's just you, so it's simple to keep leveling your pokemon.

But I plan on chaining gyrados at route 4 today.

Just caught a shiny Poliwhirl on an 8 streak :D

How are all you guys finding shinies on like the 8th of your streak? Ive just started and my first chain were a 109 with no shinies. My luck must be pretty bad T-T

Wow, this works!

I have a lovely little shiny Staryu to go with the Shiny Skitty I caught within 10 minutes of booting up the game :D

Quirky with Illuminate, but I can grind for an ability capsule to give it Natural cure.

I'll try this more when I get home, I'd like a shiny gen 6 mon (I have X, so I'll shoot for Clauncher).

This guide is wrong in one area. You CAN exit the game, and it retains the streak. I know this because that's how I beat the Fisherman's challenge. I saved, fished, if I didn't catch something, I soft reset. If I caught something, I ran and saved. Rinse and repeat until I had a streak of nine. I still have that streak.

So basically just pick a spot and fish and save after every battle. If you don't find something, reset. It preserves your streak.

In fact, now that I'm looking closer...

"-Exiting the area in which you're fishing
-Getting into a battle that isn't through fishing
-Exiting the game"

All three of these are false. I know this because I had a streak of 1 after trying to catch my Skrelp, long before I ever reached Route 16. When I then did my soft reset trick to get the 8 catches necessary to beat his score of 7, he told me I had a streak 9, not 8. Meaning the game preserved my previous catch, despite doing all of these things.

Literally, the only thing that seems to break a streak, is failing to catch a fish.

This seems plausible, honestly. Although the only other thing I wonder about is finding a shiny Pokemon. Some people are saying that your streak ends after you find one, but that kind of doesn't make sense if you think about it. My highest streak is currently 198, and if this were true, then I would never be able to break that streak unless I were (un)lucky enough to go another 200 battles without finding a shiny.

Here's my big question though. does this just increase the chances of catching a shiny out in the wild? Or can it increase the odds of hatching shines from an egg?

It really does work! I thought I'd try it out as a way to get through the tedium of grind up my Houndoom for a few levels and got a shiny Clawitzer. My largest fishing chain is only at 49, so I was rather surprised.
