"Official" Competitive Pokemon Format?

#1DalzKkPosted 10/23/2013 6:33:25 AM
So is it 3v3 now?

There is automatch with rankings/ladders yet its only for 3v3! (Unless I'm missing an option that allows 6v6??).

What do you guys consider the "proper" format?

Is this the norm now :O ?

Thats quite suprising - I always thought 6v6 was the standard format. When did this happen?

I've done VGC for 5 years now. I'm pretty sure it's never been more than 3 on 3 for singles, or (in all years I've played) 4 on 4 doubles. You get to pick from a pool of 6 pokemon, but you only select 4 to battle.

Time is the reason for this. They need to keep the tournament moving, and single battles allow for stalling and such. The battles also have a 20 minute time limit (15 until BW2), and there's a minute limit to each turn. Got frustrating 2 years ago when I tried to stall with gastrodon - the little bugger never died, but I lost a few matches due to time out. It gets particularly nerve-wracking when you're watching the clock tick down during moves with long animations, but I digress...
