I am new to breeding.. am I doing something wrong?

I have two pokemon with 4 perfect EVs each. The two together cover each stat. So how is it that I keep hatching pokemon with only 2 perfect EVs?

I'd suggest using Destiny Knot to make it a little easier.

First off they're perfect IVs. EVs are the points from super training / battling.

And you don't just guaranteed get the 4 perfects because the parents have them. Even with any helpful items like Destiny Knot or power items you aren't guaranteed to get all four. You'll usually turn out with 2 or 3. Just keep trying

Ive hatched about two dozen.

I thought the destiny knot guarantees that 5 stats get passed down between the two parents?

So there are 8 perfects IVs vs 4 imperfect ones...

so I am just really unlucky it seems?

Yes 5 stats are selected between both parents

Nothing says that the Destiny Knot selects the perfect stats

Also note that the lone stat that wasn't selected is randomized

The only way you can always pass some perfect stat to the offspring through Destiny Knot is if both parents had at least two perfect IVs in the same stats.

If you only have parents that share only one perfect stat the Knot may ignore that stat to randomize and select the imperfect stats instead for a child with no perfect IVs (well the random can end up being perfect anyway)

If you wish to have more control over stats try the Power Items instead
