I don't see why people suggest Mega Gyarados sucks

As a lead it can be really effective

I have had plenty of matches like that. Either DD as Gyarados, or Mega Evolve and DD, and then proceed to sweep. Mega Gyarados is amazing

Granted, however I have had a lot of opponents on Showdown (and ranked) today and Mega Gyarados can hold his own pretty well.

It can sweep people who aren't prepared for it, but it's typing is a let down compared to normal Gyara.

Not really, since it resists Rock now, and is not 4x weak to the incredibly common electric type attacks found in the meta game

Considering a lot of pokemon is about prediction. You have to ask yourself? Do you use an electric attack thinking he won't mega, or a fighting attack for if he does mega? You gotta ask yourself, do you feel lucky punk? Well? Do ya?

Most people I have went up against go for the Electric Attack

If you expect an electric attack, switch in a Pokemon that's immune to it or uses it to boost itself maybe? Like something with Lightning Rod.
