This tipping increasing shiny rate may be a thing...

I just got to the scary house on route 14 and listened to the guy tell his story. I looked up here on GameFAQs to see if there was a difference whether I tipped him or not. Someone said they tipped $1000 and encountered a shiny Haunter less than 50 Pokemon later. So I tipped $1000. And then I started running through the grass trying to find a Haunter and a Kerroblast, honestly not even thinking about shinies.

Not 15 or so battles later a red Skorupi appeared! So I'm thinking I may start tipping the top amount from now on, at least around areas where I am Pokemon hunting.

It's possible, but you can't draw conclusions from that few samples.

I never tipped anyone (well, except twice at the very beginning of the game when I didn't know it served absolutely no purpose, but only 100), and I still found a Shiny Chansey in the Friend Safari.

If we can somehow start a big experiment, and have a bunch of people actually test this theory, this can be busted. I really want to know if this is true or not. Most likely not. But still, you can never be sure.

While I doubt tipping increases shiny rates, I do believe they have effects, though based on where you are tipping. For example, whenever I tip the maid and butler in Battle Chateau and reenter, I tend to find alot more people have showed up than when I didnt tip and reentered.

Of course, not saying the shiny thing couldnt be a thing, though we would need a large test sample, over various variables. I would say... 100 encounters at each tipping amount (Nothing, 100, 500, 1000, or whatever the tip amounts are) around the immediate area, then another 100 encounters at each tipping amount in an entirely different area, say, across the map from where you tipped. That way we can see if the possible increased rate is limited to the area you tipped in or if the rate is timed to stay with you for a certain amount of time.

I have been tipping since I got the game a month ago, and have still never found any random shinies. The only shinies I've got have come from fishing and the Poke Radar, which are guaranteed to give shinies, so I can't really say that the tipping had any effect on those.

If tipping does increase the shiny rate, I've been very unlucky. When I'm done with this paper, I'm going to tip a bunch and then run around in the Friend Safari to see if I can find a shiny.

I've never tipped at all (every time I think about doing so I forget the cursor is automatically on "no" (horrible design choice), and I've found a shiny Chansey, Audino, Corsola, Floette, Klang and Bibarel in the Friend Safari.... effortlessly.

I've hatched 2 shiny Eevees.... effortlessly.

Without utilizing the "chain-fishing" method I've fished 4 shiny Corsola, a shiny Skrelp, a shiny Poliwhirl and Octillery.... effortlessly.

My one attempt at chain-fishing was a whopping 174 and resulted in 0 shinies.

My one attempt at deliberately shiny hunting in the Safari was a no-go, even after roughly 1,000 encounters.
