Hoenn felt a lot more seamless than Kalos. Like, there were a bunch of secret paths and stuff and the path through the game is completely non linear.
Like, you could use Odale Town (second town in the game) to reach the route above Slateport. Kalos doesn't have anything like that.
Kalos is aesthetically beautiful but it doesn't feel as "open" as Hoenn. Feels like a lot of connected set pieces.
Know what I mean?
You can use Waterfall to get to Dendemille from Lumiose. You can get to Snowbelle from VIctory Road, which is to the right of one of the first towns, too. You can get to Coumarine from Lumiose as well, through the desert.
So there's non-linear traveling here, too.
Hoenn was my favorite in overworld design, but I'm not going to overlook the gigantic, non-diverse ocean that covered a giant chunk of the map. --- Not changing this sig until I have at least one Shiny version of each Eeveelution. 1/9 done.
