How do abilities pass down in breeding?

#1Mohawk_BravoPosted 11/23/2013 8:47:57 PM
So I'm trying to breed a good Houndoom, but I'm running into some trouble. I bred until I got a female Houndour with Timid nature. Then I bred her with a male well holding an everstone so that she would pass down her nature. However, she had "Early Bird" ability and I want one with "Flash Fire". After breeding about 20 Pokémon with the Timid Everstone mother, I've only had Timid Houndours with "Early Bird". Does the Everstone now force the ability to pass down? I thought there was a 20% chance of switching to another ability, but it has not happened so far. Any advice/answers? Thanks in advance.

You're just very unlucky.

So eventually, I should get one with the right ability as well? I hope so, because I really want to breed them until I get a Timid Houndour with Flash Fire and Hidden Power Grass.

Yes, you can eventually get one with Flash Fire from those parents.

So are you saying I need a father with Flash Fire? I can't remember what the father has.

No. Idk I've had sniper Horsea from two swift swim ones. Maybe it's just 80% the mothers ability.

So, just to clarify, two Houndours with Early Bird have the same chance to have a Flash Fire baby as a male Houndour with Flash and a female Houndour with Early Bird (80% Early Bird/20% Flash Fire)?
