Friend safari or Masuda Method. Which is better for obtaining shinies?

#1Corn-FoxPosted 11/27/2013 8:09:08 PM
I'm pretty curious on which is better. I have hatched a few shinies using the Masuda Method. About 150 eggs for shiny Riolu, 20 eggs for shiny Meditite, 27 eggs for shiny Bulbasaur, and after 900 eggs I gave up on machop :/

In the Safari I got a shiny Charmeleon and Braixen pretty easily but I've been trying to get some more for the past few days and got nothing. I just want to know which method is the most efficient way of getting shiny Pokemon.

Chaining with the Pokeradar works pretty well but... you know, there aren't many good places to chain in Kalos so that can't work :/

So Friend Safari or the Masuda Method? What do you think?

In terms of getting shiny Pokemon, starting with the easiest.

1. Chain Fishing
2. Masuda Method
3. Friend safari / Random encounter
4. Pokeradar

I'd rather not try to get a shiny that can be found by chain fishing because it's so easy to get one by doing it. They just kind of lost their value IMO.

For me the easiest to worst for me is:

1. Running into them in the wild randomly.
2. Friend Safari

100. Chain Fishing.
100. Masuda Method
999. Pokéradar

My experience with both so far is that I've been getting shiny pokemon more frequently in friend safari, probably mainly because of the time it takes to hatch eggs (even with a flame body pokemon + hatching o power lvl 3).

Statistically, my shiny hunting methods will swing towards friend safari with 15+ shiny pokemon obtained from various safaris compared to the one shiny charmander I've hatched from like 600+ eggs. Obviously anecdotal evidence doesn't really count but I do think random encounters in the friend safari are so frequent that you're more likely to encounter a shiny pokemon that way as opposed to waiting for the time to hatch a bunch of eggs.

For getting a random shiny, chain fishing is probably at the top

Pokeradar is next.

then friend safari

then masuda method.

Now if you want a good shiny that can actually compete online, masuda method is your best bet.

Which method you use to nab shines really depends on what you plan on doing with that Shiny after you catch it.

If you want "just" a shiny, use Safari. Apparently they're easy to find if you donate enough time to the task; but they won't be very viable in serious play unless you use Synchronize for a good nature. I landed an Adamant shiny Mawile with Max Attack IVs using this method.

If you want competitive shines, use Masuda Method. Whether or not this is easier to get shinies depends on your patience, but on the regular its a chore. Your reward, though, are 5IV shiny gems with Egg Moves even Japanese players will *constantly * spam the Trade button to take off your hands. I speak from experience. XD

Personally I use Masuda Method. Battle Analyzer scares aside, I now have two 5IV shinies using this method that are ready for the big leagues.

The drawback to MM is having a metric truckton of Eggs/rejects and it takes longer than Safari...apparently.I wasted a huge portion of my day trying to hatch a shiny 5IV Kangaskhan...
