What does getting a 'critical capture' actually do??

#1jd_walkerPosted 12/17/2013 3:59:20 PM
So I've gotten a few critical captures now but don't actually know what it means when I get one.
I've tried looking it up online button only seem to be finding descriptions of what a critical capture looks like rather than extensive information.

Could anyone please explain to me what it actually does, if it does anything...?

Thanks in advance to any replies :)

Reduces the number of checks when determining whether a Pokémon is successfully captured. That's why the ball only bounces once.

Normally when you capture a pokemon, you have to pass 3 RNG checks to see if the pokemon stays in the ball (each wobble). For a critical capture, you only have to pass one RNG check, so you're significantly more likely to capture it.

The chance of Critical Capture is increased by how complete your pokedex is.

You have a 0% chance that your capture will fail.

Pretty much free master ball.

You see when you capture a pokemon, and the ball shakes? That's a capture check. Critical captures makes it only check once instead of three times, so they are pretty much guaranteed captures

This is flagrantly incorrect.

Normally, when you try and catch something the game does 3 checks as to whether you catch a pokemon or not (it is all % based in the end after all), for a critical capture it basically just does the check once.

Basically it reduces the amount of checks to catch the Pokemon. Normally the ball wiggles 3 times then clicks, but with a critical capture it wiggles 1 time then clicks. Each wiggle and the click has to be under a certain value the game generates based on the Pokemon's conditions (including HP, status, and catch rate) I believe. So it's still possible for a critical capture to fail.

Also, I think if you have more Pokemon caught in the National Dex you're more likely to get critical captures.
