Baton pass ideas/help?

#1thomasfreidPosted 12/28/2013 6:00:00 AM
So I'm working on a BP team to mess with my brother a bit.

I'm currently looking for a bulky sweeper that can also pass the baton (so to speak) and I just saw that Mawile has access to BP and further more MegaMawile has access to it too.

So my question is, what would be a decent EV spread for Mawile? MegaMawile's bulk is pretty decent but normal Mawile is going to have to be able to take a hit or maybe two first. Although knowing my brother he will be relying a lot on his Dragonite so I will probably pass into an Outrage to give me the free opening.

I've only got my lead sorted so far:

Ninjask @focus sash
Adamant - 248HP, 224 Atk, 36 Spe
Protect
Swords Dance
X-Scissor
Baton Pass

I understand Baton Pass is a really difficult and easily predicted strategy but this is for kicks and knowing my brother he will only have attacking moves on his Pokemon so I will have a guaranteed +2 Atk and +3 Spe boosts to pass onto Mawile.

Also any other good choices would be much appreciated.

Isn't Scolipede a better BP of Speed Boost? Swords Dance, Protect, Substitute and Megahorn. Definitely has a lot more offensive presence than Ninjask...

I use a Speed Boost Scolipede. It has Megahorn, Baton Pass, Protect and Swords Dance.

Oh I haven't really taken any notice of Scolipede before.

Is that why Ninjask dropped to NU?

I've already EV trained my Ninjask so I'll stick with it for my current team but if I decide to go fully competitive with this BP team then I will switch with Scolipede.

What about in terms of other recipients/chains? Would Umbreon suit well? I'm thinking Mean Look, Baton Pass, Wish and Assurance. Although I'm pretty bad at competitive battling and don't know if I'll know how to use/utilise Umbreon properly.
I get the idea behind it but think I would be terrible with timing and prediction to make use of it.

Espeon is a good fit - it gets magic bounce so your chain won't be broken so easily.

Is Magic Bounce it's hidden ability? If so what is the easiest way to get it?

And what would be a good set for it?
I'm always confused as to how many EVs I should invest into speed. Obviously 252 is over kill but what if the chain is broken and I need it to hold its own?

And as far as moves go how would this go:

Calm Mind
Baton Pass
Psychic
Wish / secondary attack.

Espeon definitely needs the boost to its special attack and the boost to its special defense would please recipients. I'm thinking a bulkier set would be quite effective as it will help aid in its role to boost, pass, heal and lastly sweep if there's an opening.
Is Wish vital or would type coverage be a better option?

HA Eevee can be gotten from friend safaris.

As for its moves, I've found 252HP 252Spe Espeon to be a decent Wish Passer, especially if you are going to pass something anyway. Also, if you don't go for Wish, your secondary attack would have its best option in an Hidden Power that hits Steel super effective(and is damn hard to breed for), with other options being either Shadow Ball or Dazzling Gleam.

Wish seems like the most beneficial for team support, but if you want Espeon to be a possible sweeper with the baton passed boosts, either Dazzling Gleam or Shadow Ball is the way to go.

Personally, I'd go with Shadow Ball, add a Wish(plus possibly Acid Armor) passing Vaporeon to your team and let Scolipede handle the Dark types that will wall Espeon.

Storepower would be a bit better, if you pass enough to the eevee. I was fooling around with geomancy smergle. 6*20+20 = 140 ATK. Pretty damn fun to use if you can get it off.

Storepower?
Are you meaning Stockpile?

Thanks for all the help so far guys. Vaporeon and Espeon both seem like good options.

Stored Power is a Psychic type move that poweres up for each individual boost you have: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Stored_Power_%28move%29

Even if Espeon is not your primary passing target, having Stored Power can make it a big threat since it comes in for free every time your opponent tries a support move.
