Gen 1 rules all, and I dont have my nostalgia glasses on either, Im wearing contacts.
Facts are, there were TERRIBLE Pokemon in Gen 1, like there are in other games. There were GAME BREAKING glitches in Gen 1, many of which still exist today. But no one can deny the fact that without the willingness to take a chance on over 200 Pocket Monsters (Concept to Alpha to Beta) we wouldnt have a Gen 6. Many of the concepts we have today, such as badges, HMs needed to progress and such are also thanks to Gen 1. Has stuff evolved? Of course, thats how the world works. Gameplay wise, we cant compare Gen 1 to Gen 6, or even 5, 4 or 3, simply because of the evolutionary factor. Gen 1 was on a device that was the size of an Xbox 360 power supply and the engine to make it was advance for its time, but now would be considered a joke. Gen 3 saw real advancements. Trying to compare the games just based on Gameplay is like shooting a 9mm and a bolt/arrow into a cardboard box. They both do lots of damage and go straight through but you cant grasp how powerful each projectile is.
Each game is unique in its own way, some started something brand new, others revived something old. Unless we get at least 5 subjects to compare that arent based solely on technological advancements, its a waste of time. But as I said earlier, without Gen 1, the idea of Pokemon most likely wouldnt exist.

am I the only person in existence that liked Gen 4?
No, though you might be one of the few people on this board with more patience than a gerbil on caffeine if the breeding complaints and outrage over Pokebank's delay are decent indicators.
Oh God, I think people need to get over that. There's a reason Pokebank wasn't launched in October, and that was because it wasn't ready. And apparently, it still isn't, so it will be alright if we have to wait a few more weeks. It's not like this entire generation is ending in the next few months.
