Is Mega Lucario a good lead?

#1pokenomsPosted 12/29/2013 3:06:20 PM
I ask this because I know that after one Swords Dance he pretty much destroys everything (which I know from experience). I also know that the hardest part of using him is being able to pull off that SD without being killed. Is it better to lead with him and just hope that the opponent can't OHKO you right away? and if not, when would you get the opportunity to set up?

I'd say mid battle. depending on a sweep from the get go is just asking for a focus sash or sturdy or a priority SE attack to end you. Or for one of your attacks to fail to kill something, only for it to revenge kill you hard.

Out of 6 pokemons, there will always be a way to take down any mega evolution. Mega evolutions are only good late game, just like any set up sweeper or choiced pokemon. Sure you sword danced. what tells you I dont have a talonflame rady to suicide to that lucario? thats why you need to clean up the field before throwing the megas.

Why not run a special one? With most pranksters carrying Will-O-Wisp, it'll be crippled fast.
(though my specially-defensive Trevenant could still stall a special Mega Luke to death...)

Blaziken is just as bad. All he needs to is come out, use Protect, grab a Speed Boost and then wreck you with Flare Blitz or High Jump Kick.

This is sort of where your teammates come into play here. Mega Lucario is plenty strong on his own even without SD (But ofc, you would carry it for the opportunity to use it). Sounds like you really want to buff him up. To achieve that end you could always use a Baton Passing lead like Venomoth of Scolipede to boost Mega Lucario up, lessening his reliance on wasting a turn to swords dance.

This.

Other leads could be sashed, etc (quite a few are i.e. Sashed Mamoswine) only to laugh as you attempt to SD/boost and be killed by an incoming SE attack.

On the otherhand, starting strong right off the bat can be a good thing and Lucario really has the unpredictability thing going for it being a good majority run both physical and special movesets.

Almost everything in the meta is 2HKO'ed by a +2 Mega Lucario. Thing is, he's pretty frail defensively and needs to safely set up the boost, which can sometimes be difficult to do.

He really benefits from a dual screener (Prankster Klefki, Carbink, MB Espeon, etc) as he much appreciates the added Reflect/Light Screen so he can set up a boost.

You probably want to setup stealth rocks before attempting to sweep with Lucario.
