Lagoon's New PokeBank Trading Guide!

#1LagoonTheCursedPosted 1/18/2014 10:57:59 PM(edited)
This guide, as the title says, will help you get your PokeBank pokemon and legendaries that you need for that very fragile-looking how-does-it-work Pokedex you have. But I'll answer a few questions that might pop up:

Q: What are PokeBank Pokemon?
A: PokeBank Pokemon are Pokemon that are not available without Game Freak's official transferring program, Poke Transfer. Anything that is not a PokeBank Pokemon might be called a Kalos Pokemon, among other names.

Q: Why are these PokeBank Pokemon so rare? Why can't I just use PokeBank?
A: Due to server issues, PokeBank isn't available for download and only a few Japanese players out in China/Korea/Russia managed to get the app. As a result, not many people can transfer these critters up for their dex, making them few in number compared to others.

Q: Does any Kalos Pokemon have equal value to a PokeBank Pokemon?
A: For the most part, no. You can get lucky occasionally, however, and this guide will show you how to get started on getting PokeBank Funtimes.

Step One: Get something of value
While this might be an obvious "No, duh, Lagoon!" sort of thing, this is actually much easier than it sounds.
There are two ways to start out in this: from the top of the tier list or the bottom of the tier list, which I will go over later. There are multiple things that can get you to either part, and I'm sure you wanna know the better option; the top of the tier list. What do you trade for this? Shiny Competitive Pokemon. These do not have to have good IVs, but they have to be something ordinary that someone would go looking for on a regular basis. Nobody is going to want your shiny Diggersby for a Rayquaza, I'm sorry. I actually used Greninja to start off with Rayquaza.

However, it's often the sad truth that you don't have anything really good. So what do you? You chain fish. There is a whole other sticky based on that, so go look at that. After you go through it (or if you already knew), here's what you do:
1. Get a shiny version exclusive
2. Ask for the opposite legendary (Xerneas/Yveltal)
3. When you get that opposite legendary, offer it for a legendary bird (Articuno is the best for this) OR a ever-so-slightly higher-tier Pokemon

Now, here's what you guys probably want. The tier list of value. From my own observations, here's the tier list of value, with each "higher up" being the most valuable in said tier:

S++: Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza [Rayquaza]
S+: Lugia and Ho-Oh [Likely Lugia]
S: Dialga, Palkia, Giratina [Likely Giratina]
S-: Zekrom, Reshiram, Kyurem [Either except Kyurem]
A+: Regigigas
A: Non-trio legendaries (Heatran, Cresselia) [Latias/Latios]
A-: Legendary Dogs [Suicune]
B+: Regis, Kami Trio [Landorus]
B: Lake Trio, Swords of Justice [Terrakion]
B-: Legendary Birds, Mewtwo, Xerneas, Yveltal, Zygarde [Legendary Birds]

Unranked: Unown (Unsure), Event Legendaries (Can't be traded), Vivillon (Depends on pattern)

Your best bet is to go for either B-tier when you're trying to use any B- tier Pokemon. Zygarde is the least valuable of the list.

Now that we've got the big part out of the way, let's go onto the slightly more monotonous part of this guide; the breedable 'mons.

These are, quite simply, Pokemon you can breed that are only available via PokeBank or trading. This part is incredibly simple; get a rare Pokemon (Glameow/Stantler/Porygon) via trading, then breed until you have all of the rest!

The next post will state why I picked what for which tier, and why I'm remaking the topic, so don't post juuuust yet!

S++: These are only postgame legendaries in HG/SS, plus Rayquaza is only available if you either have both games or know someone with the opposite game, unless brought up all the way from Hoenn

S+: Only available in HG/SS, but more common due to not being postgame in both games.

S: Only available in D/P/Pt, but more common than the above due to not only having three games in the series, but also due to event Arceus and other factors.

A+: Requires three regis to obtain, which can only be done if you either pass them up in gen 4 or you have a friend/second copy in gen 5.

A: Valuable in competitive play, plus they're mostly postgame legendaries

A-: All of them are in HG/SS and are easy to encounter

B+: The Regislightly more rare due to needing two copies to get all three in gen 5, or passing them up all the way from gen 3. The Kami Trio is on this tier since it is available in all gen 5 games, but requires the 3DS-exclusive dream radar to get it on Black 2/White 2.

B: These are available in gen 5 and the lake trio is available in Sinnoh while the swords of justice are available in all gen 5 games.

B-: All of these are available in gen 6, which is what you're using to trade, and as a result are not very rare.

The reason I'm remaking this topic is because this tier list doesn't really have a home and the original topic isn't viewed enough, so I figure I should make sure I have the updated tier list here and ready to roll. This guide is pretty much the same though, request a sticky if you want it to help some people out. Happy trading!

It all starts with Scatterbugs. No,seriously,it does.Evolve a few and start watching the Vivillon trades on GTS like a hawk, and snap up any rare patterns that come up for a decent trade. You'll have to move fast, and you'll lose a lot of them to someone else, but keep trying.Post the rare patterns for legends, and go back to looking for Vivillons, checking on your Vivillon every 15 minutes.Trust me,it works. :)

For a little perspective, here's my haul from the past four days just from the GTS.

Shiny Latias
Regirock
Regice
Cresselia
Regigigas
Cobalion x2
Terrakion
Virizion x2
Tornadus (HA)
Thundurus
Landorus (Therian)

The rarest patterns are mainly Meadow, Garden, Moonsoon, Tundra, Icysnow and Sandstorm.

Zygarde just happens to be listed last. You don't -have- to start anywhere. Hell, I started on Rayquaza.

As anyone following my chain trading progress topic knows, I'm following this hierarchy, and it's working for me thus far. Many thanks to TC for putting this together, it's being a tremendous help to me. :) Though it may be worth noting that I got mine started by putting a Polar Pattern Vivillon up on the GTS and asking for a Cobalion in return. That went through in mere minutes. It seems there are some Japanese Vivillon collectors out there who'll pretty much pay through the nose for non-Japanese Vivillon patterns. I mean, I doubt doing this would net you a Rayquaza right off the bat, but it's still something to bear in mind, I think.

Yeah, Vivillon is probably at a D to be honest, but I didn't bother putting them on the tiers.

Seriously, this guide's almost gotten me all the non-event bank legends in the span of one night. All I need now is the weather trio, and believe you me, that's on the way!
