Lol @ being related to chess.

RNG is a huge part of Pokemon battles (damage range, accuracy of moves, status effect chance, etc...), but at the same time it requires a bit of thinking to win so Poker.

I have to ask why it would be related to rock-paper-scissors, it's really more 50/50 on strategy and luck.

It's most like RPS, but in the way that one strategy beats another strategy, but then another strategy beats the first strategy, and so on and so forth.

Competitive Chess is literally "which sequence of hundred year old plays do I make against my opponent," there is actually LESS thought in it since those strategies are so practises and analyzed you literally have to memorize ALL of them if you even stand a chance against any pro player. That's DEFINITELY not Pokemon.

Rochambeau has an entire metagame around it (really), so why was that put in?

Poker is the most clear cut answer, though unless you're playing against an idiot Skill is WAY more important then getting the right cards, as was best said in Casino Royale: "You don't play your hand, you play the man across from you."
